About
Us
For over 18 years, Hilltots Preschool Group has been one of the most popular playgroups for parents and children in the neighborhood. We are strong believers of early educations.
Early childhood is perhaps the most important stage in life which busy parents in Hong Kong often neglect. Experiences during childhood mold the characteristics and personality of our children later in life. A child's success in future is based on more than just books and knowledge; it is built upon the child's innate characteristics including determination, concentration, personality and social skills.
We believe children who have had positive learning experiences in their early years are better equipped as they have already had the opportunity to believe in their own capabilities and taken pride in their own work.
Our goal at Hilltots is to foster a creative, confident and independent life-long learner, while preparing them with the well-rounded skills of a responsible leader of tomorrow. We pledge to educate in a holistic approach, paying attention to the balanced overall development of a child, caring about them and who they will become tomorrow.
We understand that every child has a unique journey of growth and development; no single methodology can offer a total solution without giving up other great approaches. We embrace the philosophy and practices of Montessori and appreciate the importance of other learning through play methodologies. Therefore, we incorporate the best of what is understood inMontessori philosophy into our play-based programs. Through daily activities at Hilltots, children will learn to master essential conceptual and practical skills.

* Play-based Session

Playing is a key aspect of a child's life. Through play, a child learns to make sense of the world. While interacting with others, they find out about themselves and their relationship with others. It is through natural play that they develop critical life-long skills such as problem solving and cooperative working. Our typical class activities include: Songs & music, outdoor sports and competitions, story-telling, water-play, cooking, arts & crafts, field trips and festivity celebrations.

* Montessori Play Session

Unlike the Play-based session, the Montessori Play session is quiet and serene, yet busy and productive, sometimes with soft classical music playing in the background. During a Montessori Play session, there will be various activities set up on mats and children can move about the classroom independently, choosing the order of their learning activities individually. Decisions are being made every minute in our lives. It is an essential experience for a child to choose, perform and perfect tasks and be proud of their accomplishments because this mindset will be carried forward into their adulthood. When we hear a child say, "help me", the child is saying "help me to help myself!" The direct aim of our activities in class is to fine-tune their motor movements involving the body, their intellect and will. By doing so, we assist the child in reaching personal independence. The activities are simple and natural so children acquire the skills without being aware that learning has taken place.

* Fun with African Drumming

The power of the Drum!

Fun is what children get from drumming. The phenomenon of drumming helps to reduce our stress in this bustling, vibrant city, renowned for its "all work and no play" ethos for children from a very young age.

Drumming plays an important role in children's lives; it is a very special instrument that allows children to create their own rhythm and music. The rhythm that comes from drumming doesn't have to be perfect, or even precise and articulate. It is the child's feelings and mind which they express through different forms of rhythm. For young children, drum classes can have even more benefits.

When children are drumming in a group, it helps them to break the ice when they are away from home. Drum circles teach children about teamwork and discipline, sharpen their listening skills and help them to build their self-confidence. They can provide an expressive outlet for kids, including kids with behavioural problems. Drumming with family members can be a positive, bonding experience too.

Plus, it's just fun!

* Orff Music and Movement Courses

Carl Orff is a renowned composer and an authority on children's music education. Orff's music was designed to enable children to play music without formal training. Orff music and movement courses provide materials for young children to make music by using their voices and simple percussion instruments. Using Orff methodology, we encourage children and parents to interact with each other through the harmony and rhythm, combined movement, singing, playing and improvisation. Orff music and movement courses help children and parents to learn, create, understand, and perform wiithout extensive technical or theoretical musical training through simple forms of activities. Our goal is to ensure children and parents learn, experience, awaken and develop a strong foundation in music.
